The following information relates to Overseas Travel Insurance available to Westpac card holders available with credit card complimentary insurances. Please refer to the policy booklet for full terms and conditions.

Can I claim under the overseas travel insurance?

The policy booklet which applies to the card you have with Westpac tells you the eligibility criteria you need to have met at the time loss or damage occurs in order to make a claim with us. You may claim under the group policy as a third party beneficiary by operation of section 48 of the Insurance Contracts Act.

Spouses and dependent children

Your spouse and dependent children, who are travelling with you, may also be eligible to claim under the complimentary insurances. Please refer to the policy booklet which applies to your card to check if they’re eligible.

Children born on the journey

There is no cover for any children born while you’re overseas.

Do I have to let you know when I am travelling overseas?

No, you can claim under the insurance if you’ve met eligibilty criteria at the time loss or damage occurs.

There’s no need to contact us, unless you require cover for a pre-existing medical condition.

What is my policy number?

The insurance is part of a group policy issued to Westpac, it is not an individual policy issued to you.

You may claim under Westpac’s policy if you met the eligibility criteria at the time loss or damage occurs.

Westpac’s policy number is WP01000001-00.

Is there a minimum amount I need to spend to meet the eligibility criteria?

Yes, part of the eligibility criteria you must have met at the time loss or damage occurs requires you to have paid for part of your trip overseas on your card. The details of this are set out in your policy booklet.

I‘m travelling longer than the period of complimentary cover, will I be covered?

No.

However if your return to Australia is delayed because of an event we’ve agreed to cover, or if your scheduled transport back to Australia is delayed for reasons beyond your control, we’ll continue to cover you for up to four weeks or until you return to your home in Australia, whichever occurs first.

Are medical expenses covered?

Yes, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy, cover for medical expenses incurred overseas is provided and includes:

What is a professional sporting activity?

Professional sport for which you obtain/are attempting to obtain financial gain, sponsorship or benefit from participating in or training for that sport.

I’m going skiing/snow boarding, does the policy cover this?

Yes. However, there is no cover if you participate in a professional sporting activity or are racing.

Is there an excess on each claim?

You’ll need to pay us a AUD$250 under most sections of the insurance. Please refer to the 'Excess what you contribute to a claim' section of the policy booklet for more information.

I am riding a Motorcycle/moped/scooter overseas, is this covered?

Yes, but only:

We never cover any event that is caused by or arises from racing vehicles.

Is cruising covered?

Yes, an overseas trip includes any cruise that has a scheduled stop at an international port.

If your cruise doesn’t have a scheduled stop at an international port then it is considered domestic travel and it isn’t covered by the insurance.

Will the policy cover medical expenses incurred in Australia?

There is no cover for any medical, hospital, dental or ambulance expenses you incur in Australia. We cannot cover these because we are not allowed to do so by law.
